Mark Twain plagiarises (I’m sorry, but he does) the plot of Steen Steensen Blicher’s The Rector of Veilbye, adding some Sherlockian flavor that wasn’t in the original. I like the original better, but if you enjoyed Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and wouldn’t mind more, check this out.
